CODEX Approves Korea's Proposal to Set International Standards on Dried Sweet Potatoes, Dried Persimmon, and Gochujang

□ The 40th General Assembly Meeting of the CODEX Alimentarius* was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 17 to July 22.

  ❍ The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA, minister Kim Yung-rok) announced that the meeting 
     approved Korea’s proposal to develop new standards on dried sweet potatoes and dried persimmons and change 
     the world standards on Gochujang (red pepper paste) as new projects on July 18 (Tuesday, local time).

    * (Delegation) MAFRA, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Food and Drug Safety 
       (Chief Representative), Rural Development Administration (RDA), Korea Food Research Institute

    * CODEX: An international food standards committee jointly established by the FAO and the WHO to ensure 
      consumer health protection and fair trade of food. The CODEX standard is a recommended standard for member
      countries but acts as a dispute settlement standard in cases of international trade disputes.
